HEADING BACK TO DAHAB...
WE'VE
decided on a change of destination for our late summer holiday.
It was
such a fantastic trip last time around, we've now booked a second date
with Dahab, flying out for
a week in the traditional Egyptian resort in September.
We'll
be staying at the Acacia Hotel, right on the coast and just on the
edge of the town, so within easy reach of its many bars
and restaurants. The hotel boasts its own bars too, plus a pool perfect
for relaxing by. Best of all, it has a fully-equipped, modern dive
centre on site!
Dahab
offers the best of Red Sea diving, including of course the world famous
Blue Hole.
We'll fly out from Gatwick
for 7 nights from September 13th.
The
cost, based on a standard twin room and inclusive of bed and breakfast,
transfers and 5 days diving, is £749 per person.

SHARK DIVING - IN CHESHIRE!
WE MAKE our return to Capernwray this month - for a weekend of training and
fun diving running over March 17th and 18th.
We'll be back at the fab inland site, in Lancashire, on
April 14th and 15th, and then over the May 5th,6th and
7th bank holiday, when we're planning something a little special!
We've booked a Shark Encounter at the Blue Planet Aquarium in Cheshire to coincide with
our May Capernwray weekend. A nd now we need
12 people to sign-up for the adventure!
It's booked for 4pm on May 5th - and you'll get a half
hour dip with the aquarium's giants of the deep!
You only need your Open Water qualification to join the
close encounter so it's available to all!
The cost is £130 per person.
Give the team a call to get your name down!

BE A DIVER FOR SUMMER!
FANCY qualifying in time for summer?
Well we're about to run our
Open Water programme in Stratford, qualifying new divers in just a few
weeks.
Five pool sessions, with dive theory
studied at home, are all that's needed before those looking to qualify
in time for the summer, head to open water to complete their
certification over two days.
Once qualified, they will be fully
fledged PADI Open Water Divers, able to scuba anywhere in the world.
Training will take place at
Stratford Leisure Centre over 5 Saturdays, starting on March 31st.

BOWLED OVER!
A FAB
time was had by all when 18 of us gathered for a night of ten-pin
bowling at the end of February.
Thanks
to Nikki for organising the event and for providing prizes for all.
Pictured here
is Rob - winner of the prize for highest score!
Our next
social is happening this Friday - March 2nd - when we'll meet for the usual drinks at The Moorings.
That will be
followed on March 29th by an evening
of poker and pizza at the dive centre!
If you have an
idea for a social, or fancy organising one for us, just give the
team a shout.

DUE SOUTH SOON!
AT LAST
the return of the UK coastal diving season is very nearly here!
Our
first trip down to Dorset leaves in just over a month's time when we'll
head to Weymouth for the Easter
weekend, over April
6th and 7th.
Weekend trips
will also be running on May 26th and September 1st - with the dives
to be finalised nearer the time.
David
said: "We're keeping our options open at the moment but numbers
are increasing so it won't be long before we have to give some thoughts
to the dives so please let us know any preferences. I would
certainly like to do the Countess of Earne - a nice little dive inside
the breakwater but one that will test your buoyancy and finning skills."
Don't forget we'll
also head back to Cornwall
in August, diving the beautiful Porthkerris for 6 days from
August 9th. We've again charted the Celtic Cat to take us up to the
Scylla - this year the trip will be on Friday August 10th so please book your spot soon.

details, follow this link to our
website, or get in touch with the team.

OVER TO YOU!
THE third
installment of our new section where we hear from YOU!
This
month, Neil Davison tells us about ScoobaBoosta's recent Self Reliant Diver
course...
"If you've ever wanted to challenge yourself
underwater with a selection of task loading and skills
development, then the PADI Self Reliant Diver course is for you.
If you carry a pony cylinder, as we're obliged to
when working, do you know how it works or how to throttle the
valve in the event of your redundant supply going pear-shaped too? Can
you actually reach the second stage to benefit from it at all? Again,
if in doubt, this is the course to do.
For the budding underwater photographer, when
your buddy has got bored and gone, this one's for you.
You've made a fast descent and your buddy is
still equalising above – you're effectively alone. Again this course
fills the gaps.
A three hour classroom session with
instructor Simon Higton sets the scene and runs through the
required equipment and configuration, SAC calculations. The threat
of navigation, deploying a DSMB at depth while neutrally buoyant &
simultaneously recording pressures, times, depths regularly all add to
the anticipation of the dives. Those aspects, and of course the
legendary 'No Mask Swim', which has been claimed to be for a whole two
minutes in some quarters.
At Stoney Cove, Simon gets Phil Berry and
myself enthused as the three dives are planned and then
dived. As with all PADI courses each subsequent dive compliments the
last and the required skills build on those previously practiced.
All at 22 metres, the planning is detailed and we follow the
planned dives pretty well. The no mask swim is not for 2 minutes, but
it felt like it in 5 degree water with 3 metre visibility. Certainly an
experience and a challenge I would recommend. The usual high
standard of instruction and particularly safety, was demonstrated
by all at ScoobaBoosta.
No matter how self-reliant you become in doing
this course, it's not intended to replace good buddy skills. Love your
buddy!
Well done Phil & thank you Simon."
Now
it's YOUR turn! We want
your contributions on any diving related
subject; be it a holiday, diving or training experience. Don't worry
about your grammar or spelling; our editor will sort it out, we're just
looking for a few words that others might like to read.
